Interestingly, there was an article in the Style section of the Washington Post relating to this today. It says that there is a new generation of solar panels coming out that convert sunlight directly into alternating current without inverters, a big improvement, and there is a show on some of the new technology at the Smithsonian. However, it also says the there isn't much solar on the East Coast because there is a difficulty getting enough sunlight...
