Credit card may take a while to get popular in China.
However, smart debit cards are everywhere in China now.
People buy them to pay for phone calls, bus fare and even
for the electricity. You plug the card to the power meter, and
you got electric power!

The connectivity infrastructure is the real barrier. But even
this is fast changing. It will happen in major Metropolitans such
as Shanghai and Beijing (both cities , I believe, have more than 10
million residents).

Therefore I think it probably will make sense in China.
