digital video over cable has been standardized by ATSC. The bit rate is close to 40Mbps. Only VDSL can handle something like that. You can, however, send highly compressed video under 3Mbps over ADSL and still get pretty decent image and audio. But you can only see that on your computer. The upcoming HDTV set has built in cable (Digicipher) and terrestrial (8VSB) ready receiver.
