Jack. I'm equally cynical; just believe the issue was different.

Few seem to remember Clinton and Rubin running around with their "the sky is falling" act to get the IMF bailout. They were absolutely trashing the stock market in the process. Of course, the rate cut referenced in your message coincidently occurred within minutes of the "bailout" compromise being announced.

Jack,

I don't think it's cynical to think that those that are connected to the system take full advantage of it at the expense the broader public. And I don't think it's cynical to think that our elected and appointed officials are willing to sell us down the drain to help their buds and contributors out. Rather, it's naive to think otherwise. We may never know all the details, but I'm sure we wouldn't like them if we did.

Jack, You are not cynical. I think there is no doubt that AG bribed the financial institutions to bail out his buddies at LTCM. And, I think he is still giving them advanced notice of Fed moves or at least very strong hints.
