WFR - Good question. The perspectives are many, I would guess -- as many as there are investors. But to narrow it a bit, there are the fundamentalists, the technologists, and the gamblers. And probably all of them fall into two categories: optimists and pessimists.

I am in the fundamentalists and optimists camp but occasionally visit with the gamblers.

First, there is no reason to believe that 3Com Investor Relations will provide investment guidance one way or the other. They could get the company into bigger trouble than it already is. And it matters little or nothing to them whether an investor buys the stock or not because 3Com does not get the money.

Second, 3Com is a large corporation with executives to feed and care for. Those executives may be somewhat incompetent at times but are smart enough to know that they eventually have to perform to keep their jobs. And stay out of jail.

Third, 3Com has products with an income base and future products that show real potential if successful. There must be one or more companies out there willing to takeover 3Com if the price is right.

Anyway, there are several ways to view 3Com's future and several ways for the investor to play the game. I've enjoyed making a few dollars day trading a few times but am looking for the big score with JAN2001 LEAPS. This is based on the theory that 3Com will either be a huge success on its own or will be bought out a nice premium during the next 17 months.

However, my crystal ball is no better than any other. So, all of the above is just my opinion and subject to change.

Regards,
Elmo
