Then why is the yen been constantly so strong and trying to get stronger, even though they pay a measly 1/4-1/2% interest on deposits??

Here we go again, Ron. Is the Yen getting stronger, or is the dollar getting weaker? Seems to me the buck is slipping against most other currencies, which in part is accounting for the rise in $POG.

And, therein lies one of the big problems with a comparativly based dollar -- if other nations have the economic strength (and will), they can join to manipulate it.

If the PRC devalues, as a number of recent posts here suggest, what will that do to the yen and the dollar? IMO, it will strengthen both, and help to lead both the US and non-Chinese Asia closer to recession.

<<Isn't it plausible that should the US fall into a similar situation as Japan, the US dollar will become overly strong as well, despite the Fed trying to lower rates to stimulate growth??>>
Is it possible with the weakness in the mfg, ag,& nat. resource, economic sectors, our $ has allready become overly strong?

Ron,
I came upon a reason why gold demand could go up very soon.

What are the donation limits an individual can make as a campaign contribution? If one with great wealth wished to "over support" a person running for office, would a good vehicle not be the US Gold Eagles (Face value $50)?

There has been a jump in POG near election time in recent history.

Thoughts?

Ron,

It seems to me that currency strength will focus on the region (N/A, Europe, Asia) that has the strongest likelihood of stock market appreciation.

<<US dollar will become overly strong as well, despite the
Fed trying to lower rates to stimulate growth??>>

These regions can only each lower interest rates so much - then they are at the end of the interest rate rope ..... what then?

All IMVHO, of course.
