The candle that formed on 7/9 is called a spinning top. It means that investors are uncertain whether to buy-sell-hold a stock and a spinning top should always be looked at as a possible top on an uptrend and bottom on a down trend. It's color is black which is another indication that it is a trend reversal in the making.

Looking at the same dates (7/9-7/12) using Williams and Stochs 5-3-3 you can safely conclude that you have a top by looking at the movement of both of those signals while keeping in mind the bollinger chart.

When I see signals lining up in this way on 7/9, I would be looking at the intra day charts on 7/12 using stocks, williams, money flow and candles askresearch.com to determine if there is any intra day weakness. In another window I would be looking at the daily candle that is forming by say 10 a.m. and would note whether it's color was black or white. If white I would cautiously hold but if black in color I would sell.

That would get you out just as it comes off a top. It takes some practice as I'm sure you can imagine and you won't always hit a top right on the money but you will be right far more times than you will be wrong.

After this exercise the next step is to find the bottom. This is what I am looking for now for AOL because I sold my trading position and am looking for a re-entry point. Last Friday I placed a buy order at $98. I will reassess my buy price before the market opens on Monday and may adjust it up or down some.
