E, actually I was wrong to say you were "wrong." On re-reading your post, I find I agree substantially with everything in it. What I should have said was that I thought Christopher made a good point about "sophisticated users": i.e., that some users may be even more sophisticated than the ones you cite. Since he made the point defending himself against you, then it followed that you were wrong....But you weren't really....

Gosh, resorting to cliches can really mess things up!! <gg>

Does using "advantage" as a verb actually advantage anyone?;^)

I suggested that one prefers one's child to speak in a way that advantages him or her, and that using dialogue as a verb doesn't do that, whatever the OED says
