On the subject of Quicktime....

Awhile back there was some talk of Quicktime being the "new standard" of video over the internet. And that it conformed to MPEG 4. I'm not sure I understand the connection. Are there any other players that use this and what sets QT apart from them.

As with mp3's, QT plays them but other players seem to do a better job as far as playlists.

IBM's Via Voice demo on a Mac during SJ's MW-NY Keynote is indicative

that this time around both IBM and AAPL have better management .

Adam , adding to IBM and AAPL's "past" clumsy PowerPC efforts , AAPL was also nailed by MSFT's killing its Windows and application(s) port(s).

When AAPL couldn't peddle its mess to IBM above $55/shr it floated a secondary at $44 , ostensibly to provide advertising funds to defuse Windows/95 , but it was really a cover for insider selling .

The "Street" (and Gates) wrote AAPL's obit but boardmember Amelio prevented its disassembly with his CEO "Notes" . During all this IBM to its credit , or maybe to protect its PowerPC "secrets" , made PowerBooks for AAPL in Japan .

Water under the bridge ? Hopefully , but the past shows how integral IBM is in AAPL's future . Not to say there are not counter factions in both companies who fight it , but Steve Jobs will be the ultimate arbiter.

IMO , IBM will manage itself around its RS/6000 and AS/400 PowerPC concerns to provide AAPL with superior CPU power for its OS X , probably in return for access to OS X for multi-platform use .

As a long term shareholder in both companies I see the Sun (no pun , but somewhat coincidental as a "aligned" company) rising for them and setting on MSFT's OS monopoly .

<<Taligent and Copland OS disasters>>

Taligent was the name of the company working with Apple on the new OS.

Wasn't the OS actual code-named "Pink"?

Instead of thinking different, we were going to "Think Pink."
