As far as I know the Adcon rumors are totally without any foundation. However it's very hard to disprove most "plausible" rumors. Once you get a few thousand surgeons using a product I assume there will be a few bad outcomes that likely have nothing to do with the product but still can be used to blacken it.

A lot of short attacks seem to come in the period just after a company gets its first product approved and is making the transition to profitability. Given that sales for many new products can take a year or even longer to really get going, it's easy to point to slow sales and continuing losses (or a huge PE ratio) as an argument that a stock is overvalued.
