JohnG: Maurice probably will answer, but in case he is on the golf course or asleep, here goes. The sad fact is that the "chosen instrument" for Sprint is Iridium (IRID). Why this is the case is unknown to me. But unfortunately there is no relationship now between Sprint PCS and G*. Your logic is impeccable. But in the phrase used in the Nixon years, "inoperable". Chaz

PS What you suggest might be possible with Vodaphone/Airtouch since Airtouch is the chosen wholesale agent for G* for North America.

JohnG, Good concept, wrong company. Globalstar/Airtouch is the USA gang, not Globalstar/Sprint. Interesting drop on Globalstar now that the constellation is at 32 satellites. A bit of pre-action nerves, sell on the news, taking the profit, rebalancing Loral/Globalstar values, nerves about a market decline - oil is a big item in the inflation index. Oil prices still rising. Alan Green$pan won't be able to raise rates fast enough to stop a bit of inflation. Oil now double the Xmas prices. That's a BIG increase. That's another $300m per day going to OPEC that wasn't going there at Xmas. Plus other energy costs will match those, so there is about $500m per day going to energy producers which wasn't previously - okay, that's a slight exaggeration because nuclear and other energy doesn't go up that much in the short run, but if the oil price rise sticks long enough, it will mean that in the long run. That's $150bn per year. That's real money. That's enough to put a dent in a LOT of economic activity and shift the centre of gravity and disrupt proceedings.

Just as well for Q! that it won't affect cellphone sales and will even accelerate them since there will be less driving and flying and more phone calls to achieve the same thing. Remember what happened in Korea in 1998 if you doubt that theory = cellphone sales didn't miss a beat. Air travel bit the dust.
