every time i close out of print preview, i get an illegal operation and have to close, big pain, anyone else?

Richard, You've already included the Metastock code fragments you desire in your own post. That's what is to the right of the "//" on each line. You need to use them with appropriate AND operators. Be careful to match parentheses. Metastock Help is brief on PDI/MDI/Directional Movement. More info on "Directional Movement" online at equis.com Println is used in QP2 to print output line. close(0):8:3 means value of today's close formatted to 3 decimal places. Metastock doesn't need this. Be sure to experiment / read about Metastock formula language. Their manual has good examples you can learn from. Paul
