This is nice, the company is giving us a little update on how things are going:Global Crossing Advances Pan European Crossing; Necessary Licenses Obtained; Construction Proceeding on Schedule globalcrossing.bm I was expecting results for the quarter to be released today. Well, maybe tomorrow. John, here's a short article on FRO, Quest/USWorst. Not as detailed as the one you posted, but colourfull <G>worldlyinvestor.com Talking Telecoms: Qwest, Global Crossing, Lucent and More July 21, 1999 6:26 AM EDT By Casey Freymuth Special to worldlyinvestor.comQwest Gets Clam Meat; Global Crossing Gets the Pearl To perhaps no one's pleasure but his own, Qwest (quote, chart, profile) CEO Joe Nacchio landed US West (quote, chart, profile). It should be interesting to see how all this plays out with investors and whether analysts pooh-poohing the deal are proved wrong by Nacchio and Qwest management. If you think I've been hard on Qwest for pursuing US West, you should read the intra-industry comments of other analysts. One analyst report called the deal "Qwest and US West: Dumb and Dumber." Another analyst, when initially reviewing the Qwest bid, described US West as a "dirty, bargain-basement rag." On the other side, Global Crossing (quote, chart, profile) landed Frontier (quote, chart, profile). Frontier was clearly the gem of this deal, and Global Crossing has landed itself a modern US network while next generation company Qwest has acquired the poster child of legacy carriers. In fairness to Qwest, becoming the fourth largest local exchange player in the country is nothing to sneeze at (which I have previously indicated in this column). And if you believe in the super-carrier theory, which Qwest and US West both subscribe to, it does equate to long term survival insurance. But one thing's for sure - Qwest is going to have its work cut out for it - with the market as well as with the US West. Qwest's stock still has not recovered from the beating it took the day of the announcement.
