Company Press Release
eSAT Inc. Completes Successful Beta Test of Nexstream Product
San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Will Utilize System To Meet Unique Needs
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 3, 1999--eSAT Inc. (OTC:ASAT - news), a leading global knowledge provider and creator of satellite-based information delivery systems for businesses, governments and educational institutions, Wednesday announced that the company had successfully completed beta testing of its proprietary Nexstream(TM) product with the San Bernardino County, Calif. Sheriff's Department.

Nexstream is a bi-directional satellite communications solution that provides secure Internet access for facilities with multiple locations to create Private and Virtual Private Networks (PNs and VPNs).

The product offers significant benefits to organizations with mission critical applications and high-speed data delivery needs where privacy and security are a primary concern.

Its advantages include flexible bandwidth of 16 Kbps to 384 Kbps uplink speed, up to 8 Mbps downlink speed, DES 56 encryption and short procurement cycles and installation times. Nexstream also serves as a highly effective back-up system for terrestrial communication lines in the event of natural or man-made disaster.

Emergency response organizations can utilize its rapid deployment capabilities for communication services in remote areas before, during and after such an event.

With two of eSAT's Nexstream products in place, the recently completed beta test established connectivity between the LAN at the sheriff's department headquarters and a remote LAN for the provision of WWW, telnet, FTP and other IP services.

Using a combination of portmapping and Network Address Translation technology, the two IP networks were able to successfully authorize users and then pass traffic, while at the same time restricting access by all outside Internet users. Additionally, during the testing period, several IP routing topologies were tried in order to determine the optimal configuration necessary to provide the levels of both functionality and security required by the department.

According to materials released by eSAT, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department currently utilizes a system of approximately 20-30 remote LANs countywide -- a system which is providing a level of communication which does not meet the future objectives with department headquarters, where a variety of mission critical servers and databases reside.

One of the most important factors in the department's plans for ongoing construction of its communications network has been to find a wireless communication system with the ability to provide on-demand connectivity, flexibility and portability.

``With the successful completion of this important test, I believe that we have finally established the type of service that the Sheriff Department requires in order to meet a unique set of communications needs. We have been very impressed from start to finish with the level of service and commitment demonstrated by eSAT,' said San Bernardino County Technical Services Manager, David Rogers.

``The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is exactly the type of organization we had in mind when we began developing the Nexstream product. We are extremely pleased with the results of this initial test and are looking forward to working closely with the department in the future to meet all of their communications needs,' remarked Michael Palmer, CEO at eSAT.

San Bernardino County, located about 100 miles east of Los Angeles, is comprised mainly of empty desert terrain and small rural towns. At approximately 16.5 times the size of the entire state of Rhode Island, it is the largest county in the continental United States.
