Technological? Market Strategy? Production capacity? etc>>>

With the changes to technology and the fact that the first operational satelite constelation was only just reached TODAY, it makes no sense to rush out a phone for which there is no service. Working phones have been around for more than a year now, but not sold. In that time, they have improved the electronics package quite a bit and may well have been able to produce an even smaller phone. I would suspect that they will release the current phones after the full constellation has been checked rigorously over the next 3-4 months. It just make alot more sense to fix 1000 phones if they find a problem than to recall 1M phones after an early rush to market for which there is no use.

IMHO, I would look for phones in early/late Sept if they hold on track and on into early 2000. It makes sense to ramp it up slowly while the demand grows with it.
