Re "Realism is required"--Thank goodness it's not required for the contest! Don't worry about my confusing investment decisions with trying to win a contest on the G* thread. Certainly hopes (and voting tactics!) can be different from expectations.

I am a long-term investor. As such I don't really care how quickly sales occur in the first year--as long as they hit certain minimums, and justify (1) the existence of a satellite market, and (2) get G* to a second generation.

I've got a big problem with ericy's involvement, at this point. But, G* has been terrific at hitting their benchmarks. And Q has been a great technical performer--regardless of their share price. They both have done everything they have set out to do.

It still is an open question to me whether sufficient market exists to support the infrastructure. But, I can report an anecdote. On vacation last week in Vermont (not the most remote location in the world) the number of people walking around the resort looking for their wireless signals was pretty hilarious. All of these people were trying to make these calls in the face (I assume) of pretty outrageous roaming charges. And, I believe all would have greatly appreciated being able to get a reliable signal off a satellite. Each family that I knew of had someone wanting to spend a couple of hours during the week settling some outstanding issue at the office, or with a client, etc.

And the amount of buildout still required to get reliable cellular service is still significant. We were on a campus with a couple hundred families. Those couple of hundred wireless users are split into five camps, by my count: 1. Analog, 2. GSM, 3. TDMA, 4. Sprint (900 band CDMA) and 5. other (1800 band) CDMA. Some of those five will never complete their buildouts. If those companies want to keep their customers, they'll have to offer an alternative. Of course, Airtouch may have something to say about this, but. . .
