Did you send a link or use the "send page" command.

No one but you will should have access to that page.

Once you login to SI, YOU can only see your stuff, the other can only see what you sent him/her. If you use send page, the person will see only that page and can't proceed any further unless they login. If they click on a link, they will get a login pop up box.

If you send a link, the person should not have access to SI, they should get a pop up box asking for login as well.

The same works on the beta site. SI now uses cookies and you can't send someone your cookie file to allow access. Now if you were to send your "cookie file", located in your user folder in Netscape, you should be able to give the other full access to other "remember password" or similar type featured accounts.

If you go into your send folder, you can enter SI and it will appear that other can as well. Try this: Close all your browser windows and click on that link, it should ask you to login.

The beta site uses as login screen. The new SI uses cookies, not just for login. You will recieve 4 cookies at login on the beta site. Cookies can or will be used to track your movements through the entire Go2Net site.

That's just a fact of life no-a-days on the web. Here are some sample pages that can track users on any website.

extreme-dm.com

www1.sitetracker.com

Only thing is once you login to a site that knows who you are, they can track and data mine your surfing habbits on their site. Now the part I don't like is what if they share this info with third parties? Plus cookies are an invasion of privacy.

I missed the edit time. I just noticed that one link would not work unless you click on the button on this page:

Site tracking samples:
sitetracker.com

Try the REPORTS BY DATE and GENERAL REPORT at the bottom.

PS
I'll say it again. When you login a site that uses cookies, they can track your movements (on their web site). That's everywhere on the NET. But any site that has all your personal data you gave to join can now see what your personal browsing habits are. They could end up sharing this data with third party companies. I am not saying SI or Go2Net would do this, but they could, and get paid for that info as well.

For more info on cookies see:
cookiecentral.com

It all boils down to trust and greed. Privacy statements are not enough. We need strict government regulation on privacy matters, just like the ones implemented in Europe last year. Self regulation doesn't work.

This is interesting:
cookiecentral.com

PS
I'm not trying to cause SI problems. Just making some people aware of what you give up with life on the NET.

PPS
Sorry for rambling on about cookies. All this talk about sweets made me hungry.

Hi Sherry,

Someone once copied me a link from SI. It proceeded to permit me access to their account, including inbox, bookmarks, peoplemarks, etc.

I would have your password changed ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers
Carole
