Wes/max90 .. Last Mile Broadband Solutions

Here's a link to a thread devoted to this topic
and info/comments on the major players .. alot of
smart technically competent sounding folks on this
thread .. the emphasis is more on the equipment
suppliers/vendors than on the network operators/owners ..

Subject 4754

The i-net connectivity market is obviously huge .. IMHO
I don't feel that there is any one best 'technology' or
'delivery' bet out there .. as I see it the market will
support/enrich several companies in each of the following
'delivery' markets .. interestingly each technology has
various constraints/limitations/liabilities that prevents
any one of these 'solutions' from becoming ubiquitous ..

1) xDSL .. has distance from CO and CO access limitations
2) Cable Modem .. limited to existing cable plant
3) Wireless .. Line of sight and rain attenuation limitations
4) Satellite .. presently high speed on downlink only

Our job .. should we choose to accept it .. is to identify
the likely winners in each category for both the equipment
vendor and network owner/operator ..

Here's a 'solution' that we should research further

Wes dsl unlike cable has different monthly payments.Yes you can go up to about $1000 a month for the fastest.I have dsl and am perfectly happy.I don't think even the powers that be know in the end what will be the best way for broadband.Currently I've read that chips can give more speed to the lines which could bypass cable.
[A few weeks ago Barrons had the head of level 3 on the cover and a very long article talked about a lot of this]
