That idea is being worked on. You just don't want to fly through the beams. Solar power is being used in space now, it keeps the satellites going.

I am not totally against that idea FT, and I remember reading about that somewhere in the early 1980's. One of the problems I have with it, is what method of transferring the energy gathered will be employed, and what would happen if the "beam" wandered off path a bit?
