Hi Karen,

Au contraire,

In this world of JIT inventory and manufacturing to order, I think you can make the opposite case, at least until shortages develop.

Anyone buying now and setting aside cash, or encouraging others to do so during 'normal times', will mean less people making demands on the system when and if a crunch comes. I would not argue that it would be irresponsible to do so at that time.

Buying extra supplies, at a time of plenty, is not hoarding, although governments and politicians will try to say so, to deflect the blame away from themselves. Indeed, if governments had encouraged people to prepare early, starting say at the beginning of this year, shortages at Y2K could not develop.

At least that's my humble opinion ... I am willing to change my mind, if you can convince me otherwise.

:-))

John

Seems to me that it would be useful to argue less about the degree of risk and to think more about how we can react in a constructive way so we don't make things worse.

Karen,

I absolutely concur!!!

I hope you don't plan on being a lurker, rather than a participate.

There is a distinct shortage of people out here who have the courage to take on those who seem bent upon spreading panic.

Regards,

Ron

<react in a constructive way so we don't make things worse>

Good statement! Making situitions worse is not preparing adequately now while there is still time, rather than waiting until the masses panic, and adding to that!

Those on this threat that advise, recommend, suggest, however directly or subtlely, to prepare totally inadequately, will themselves irresponsiblly, but knowingly, contribute to the panic, due to whoever is so inflenced by them, that minimally prepare, or not at all, but later decide to more adequately prepare, but only after they see the masses run to the stores, and/or get serious bad news later, but it will be too late for all at that time!

There are lurkers who lack the courage to post here due to attacks by the 'smile, be optimistic, don't prepare beyond a couple of days or you will cause a panic, you horrible person, you', duhnialists, who label and slam anyone who says
"prepare sufficiently or maximumly, not minimally', i.e., prepare now for a bad case senario, rather than a 'have a happy new year- all will be well senario', as survival is at stake for those who undercalculate and underprepare.

People DIE 4 days without water. These pollyanna/duhnialist posters apparently think that is too much water to store. That's just one example.
