>>will make a dent in LU, NT, or screwed up Cisco is ludicrous.

I see you aren't tuned in to who is winning key business at the core of the next generation networks being built (UUnet, Qwest, AT&T, Cable & Wireless). Realize that JNPR is already winning business because LU, NT and Cisco don't have an architecture or product that can compete. Cisco is in the lab but they are fighting with a major disadvantage in this market, an architecture designed for enterprise routing.

Moreover, JNPR doesn't necessarily have to 'make a dent' in Cisco to be a very successful telecom company. The internet infrastructure market is a very, very big one and having the very strategic backbone router position makes it very difficult for others to compete as Juniper will continue to revolutionize the industry. If Qwest, Global Crossing and others can all build huge market valuations nearly overnight, its hard to believe another great infrastructure provider will not emerge. Juniper sure looks to me like that company.

re. the $17.5mm quarter, it isn't all that important as that number will grow exponentially over the next 12-24 months just on early buildout and conceptual leaders like Juniper, while always vulnerable to sharp short-term corrections, will blow away estimates and remain attractive to growth oriented mutual funds. Unless you totally screw up your trading, its hard to lose money in companies that grow revenues 40%-50%+ qtr/qtr. Juniper just grew what, 75% sequentially. They deferred a lot of revenues as they are only recognizing a portion of the customers which they have already shipped product to. Look for $25-30mm next quarter with conservative accounting. This story is as clean as it gets.

This is a left side of the brain investment. Simple math of cap/revenues won't help you.

good luck. see you at $200.

What bothers me is how fast stocks like this get extrapolated into the future. I remember buying MSFT, CSCO, ASND, etc. within days of going public and not being concerned about a few points on the valuation. Now, it seems that even a potentially good stock over time, gets launched into space on the first day. Buying them creates a 'risk basket' while my core holdings remain in the tech blue chips until serious cracks appear.
