Surviving for 35 years until the radiation cloud disappears is not very attractive to me. Remember, I'm the one who shops for groceries each meal so I can have exactly what I I have a taste for, when I don't eat out, that is. I would be exceedingly cranky after 2-3 days without electricity or water, let alone 35 years. In your scenario, the only preparedness I would need is a copy of "Final Exit," which I already own.
