Dan, about a year or so ago the companies began using diluted shares for reporting earnings.

I believe this takes out the possibility of raising EPS due to buy back.

Dell has done very well using shares as an investment in the past so I won't rule out buying a bargain.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Dan, it's hard to know the exact reason, but it has the effect of a tax-advantaged dividend. If it were an "investment" then the only way to cash in would be to sell the stock at some point. Maybe the best way to think of it is as a return of capital to shareholders.
