Periphonics Interactive Voice Response System Handles Over 10,000 Calls Daily At McKesson Water Products, the Largest American-Owned Bottled-Water Company
BOHEMIA, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 5, 1999--Periphonics Corporation (NASDAQ: PERI - news), a leading worldwide provider of products and professional services for call processing solutions used in Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) and Telecom Enhanced Network Services, today reported that McKesson Water Products Company (MWPC), headquartered in Pasadena, California, has completed installation of a second VPS/is Model 9500 system from Periphonics. The system doubles the capacity for automation of calls in McKesson's call center, which handles in excess of 10,000 calls per day.

''The company has employed Interactive Voice Response (IVR) technology to ease our customer service call-load for a number of years now,'' explained Customer Service Manager Beth Weaver. ''Because our original IVR system did not readily support the ability to modify and add applications, we decided to consider replacement system options. Of the three companies invited to participate in the process, we chose the Periphonics solution as it offered the best technology for our needs, the best references, and it was competitively priced. The first Periphonics system was installed last year.''

All inbound 800 number calls come through the Customer Service Center. Incoming calls include: account inquiries, billing questions, credit card payments, statement requests, requests for additional water or skipping a delivery, additional product requests, service questions, and product information requests.

''The system has been up and running for about a year now and has exceeded our expectations,'' continued Weaver. ''It currently handles a significant percentage of our call load without the need to involve customer service representatives. We expect to increase the volume of calls handled by the system by simply fine tuning the applications. For our customers who still have rotary telephones, we offer the ability to conduct their transactions using the system speech recognition feature.''
