G* does have a phone booth or "public" phone on the drawing board doesn't it?

Absolutely. Text from Globalstar website describing pay phones and fixed phones:

"Globalstar payphones will be especially beneficial in the remote areas of the world where phone lines haven't yet reached, or where they may be uneconomical to install. Located in villages as small as a few hundred people, Globalstar payphones will be available either in phone booths or as counter-top units that can be installed at a local store.

In places where land-based services haven't been established, Globalstar satellite service will soon support telephones for homes and offices. Features include standard, cordless and desk phones, computers, answering and facsimile machines.

These fixed phones also offer the same security and features of the handheld Globalstar phones, like speed dial, voice mail, Short Messaging Services (SMS), data and facsimile transmission."
