Graphics chips are not Intels bread and butter. Support and compatibility for the Intel uP architecture goes all the way back to the 8088. ATI does not support their old graphics chips like the MACH 64 anymore either.

Why spend $$$ supporting something that has limited sales??

I guess it's not that easy to make good graphics chip after all, so maybe next time you see a news that XYZ will now make graphics chip or announced the next BIG set-top boxes, or SOC that doesn't mean it's the end.

If you are an OEM, wouldn't you prefer using the old rage pro which you can still get updated drivers, or go with company ABC whom you don't know for how long they will support the chip. Intel does not support the i754 anymore.
