AMD Signs Multi-year Agreement for Simplex Interconnect Verification Tools
Standardizes on Fire & Ice QX for Place & Route Extraction and Storm Tool Suite for Sign-off Physical Verification
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 26, 1999-- Simplex Solutions, Inc. and AMD have reached a multi-year agreement to incorporate the Simplex interconnect verification products within AMD's design groups. Simplex' new Fire & Ice® QX 3D extraction product for place & route will be used in AMD's design and verification process, which currently includes Simplex' VoltageStorm(TM) and ClockStorm(TM) for full-chip, sign-off verification prior to tapeout.

We performed a lengthy evaluation of verification tools from several companies,'' said Fred Weber, vice president of engineering at AMD. ''We selected Simplex for the exceptional speed of their new Fire & Ice QX extraction product and the unique capabilities of their full-chip analysis products. Previously, we had to break the design into small blocks for extraction and analysis which cost us weeks in the overall schedule. Using Simplex tools, we've successfully extracted gate level designs at speeds over 200,000 nets-per-hour with Fire & Ice QX and generated full-chip views of power distribution and clock skew.''

''Many of the world's leading semiconductor companies are retooling to solve interconnect issues in ultra deep submicron designs,'' said Penny Herscher, president and CEO of Simplex. ''We're delighted AMD has selected Simplex to provide tools for interconnect verification. With AMD's aggressive timing and power requirements, this relationship will be mutually beneficial to both companies as we continue to push the technology curve beyond 0.18 micron.''

Maybe this will help the K8 tape out earlier.
