Zeev,

Yes, Arabic has various dialects as well. I knew several individuals when I was at the language institute in Monterey, CA who were studying Arabic. One was studying Syrian dialect, while the other was studying Egyptian.

While they could read the same text, they would constantly complain about how it was fruitless for them to study together and practice their speaking skills due to the difference in the dialects.
