Tony, and All, please keep in mind that I later qualified those posts as an odyssey flown at 60,000 ft. While I did take some license of authorship during a stream of consciousness, the themes and analogies I presented were valid, in my opinion. Even if they did in some cases flirt closely with myth.

I received some interesting email in response to those posts. One, in particular, from one of the editors [and an acquaintance of mine who holds no punches] from Network Magazine, Tom Henderson. Tom's views were more in line with Local Area Networking types of protocols (although today those are fair game on the wide area network as well) and the nuances of ATM-TCP/IP in the context of bandwidth contention and which will survive. He also makes a good point about the relevance in his opinion of the OSI Reference Model, being an antiquated mechanism that may no longer be relevant in many of today's more convoluted networking scenarios. I don't agree fully with that, but that's what opinions are for.

Anyone caring to view Tom's comments on the matter, use the PM feature.
