Laz, USW customers are among the most cynical concerning their telephone incumbent provider's (USW's) service that I've ever come across. If that tells you anything. Even those who are in the selected DSL cities complain about service. Salt Lake City is one spot where T will attract a lot of converts, I'm rather certain, once they get their improved last mile fiber segmentation straightened out.

In fairness, USW's is also among the unfriendliest to administer due to low pop densities and diverse, and often hostile, terrains.

But that still doesn't go to the argument of increased stickiness, either. Quite to the contrary. Customers are not interested in why they perceive service to suck, all they know is that they perceive it so.

Hi Laz,

Re: Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the USW residential customers who want broadband access more likely to go to a competing carrier as soon as they can?
You are absolutely correct, sir. I'm a US Worst customer and I, along with many friends and associates, would love to have a viable option in lieu of getting "the business" from USW. I don't hold out much faith in the notion that the QWST management will treat the local customer any better. All indications are that the focus of the new QWST will be data-centric, urban and largely outside USW's traditional territory. Leaving me, and most of the rest of us out here in Central Oregon, to deal with an obsolete CO and an intransigent attitude about modernizing.

Just how "sticky" are these customers, anyway?
Let's put it this way. Teflon doesn't come close to describing my adherence and loyalty to Sol & Co. ;-)

Ciao, Ray
