psh, re: ATHM's MSOs all being attached in a similar way with respect to ATHM's servers, and not separated [demarked] like dialup ISPs...

" Do you know what is involved here so that it so much more complex?"

Quite to the contrary. The fact that they are all similar objects to one another on a backbone network (the ATHM intranet) makes things eminently more simplified from an administrative standpoint, not more complex. Unless I am missing something... anyone?

A word on demarcation, however. Simply because they are similar to one another and they attach in a like manner to the bacbone does not mean that they are all in the same sub-domain. While they may not be physically distinct from one another, they are logically separated through subnet addressing schemes, of which each MSO (I would assume) has their own range of addesses, and hence, their own "logical" space in the universe.

A parallel to this could be seen within a given enterprise, say, where the Mergers and Acquisitions group resides in one logically defined router segment or domain, and Capital Markets on another. They each feed off of the same building backbone system, but they are in effect blocked from one another at the router level, unless permissions are set up at the individual user account level, or at the router port level, to allow otherwise. Knowing M&A folks, however, I wouldn't bet on it. grin

And after a little more thought, I wonder how truly similar each and every one of the MSO's set ups actually are to one another. Anyone?
