I hope the voters in SF listen to this - VOTE FOR OPEN ACCESS. If these guys in SF have any sense of capitalism and free competition, they will vote for open access. Not allowing AOL and the other ISPs over cable is akin to the baby bells that own the wiring into our homes argue that they and only they have the right to offer us Internet access. I dont think any of us would buy that now, would we? So why the double standard for cable versus telephone? Why not let the market place decide if AOL or ISP over cable is better than the ATHM or Roadrunner? Isnt that the reason why Justice broke up ATT in the first place? To avoid monopolistic practices? And now we are trying to create a new one by allowing 1-2 companies to provide cable? What is to say that these 1-2 companies down the road will not exploit their monopoly and hike up rates 10, 20, 30% per year? Again DOJ will have to step in and break up this mess. WHy not avoid this and act sensibly now. I urge everyone in favor of open access and competition to voice their opinion so that the voters in SF and everywhere hear us. Dont get me wrong, I am not for or against AOL or ATT or anyone, this is an issue of free market and is one of the basic tenets of this country's system.
