Cheap/free PC's also gives the buyers more $ to spend on productivity (Office,Quicken...) and anti-productivity software (ie. Flight 2000,Quake3...) ; just another way to look at it.

cheap/freePC is almost a new market segment of people who previously couldn't justify spending the $ for the use they would get out of a computer. New market segment = new revenue streams as these newbies explore and buy software as they're computer literacy increases ?
