Dave:

The day we have all been waiting for (an operational
system in place) has come and gone with no word on a firm start of service, where service will start, where we
can get a phone, when we can get a phone or for how much, etc, etc. You know these guys must have been
thinking about all these things for some time.

System is not up yet. There are some weeks of satellite check out and transfer into final orbit. Perhaps when they are on station an announcement will take place, however we still have full up system testing to get through also.

I would like to hope that the second generation phone will be tested with the constellation as well - although I have no evidence to point me in that direction.

Chin up.

David: And of course if Valueman is right and the "system" actually requires the Aug 14 launch to ensure all 8 planes have sufficient working satellites, perhaps waiting until that happens is prudent. Chaz

Dave:

I wouldn't worry about lack of news as to service start dates, etc. It seems to me that there are some very good reasons for the lack of such specificities.

For one thing, G* is probably leaving many of these announcements to the SPs. That makes good sense, since the availability of service in individual countries is dependent on the existence of an available gateway. Different countries will have their gateways coming on line at different times. It seems to me unwise to make promises worldwide that service will start on date such and such when in reality it may yet be several more months in many individual countries.

Furthermore, while service can commence with the present fleet of 32 satellites, it is my understanding from prior posts on this board that the drop call rate with the 32 sat system is likely to be as high as 5%. This rate supposedly will go down to a mere 1% once the next launch of 4 more satellites goes up in August. I suspect many SPs are a little gun shy about a 5% drop call rate and are therefore waiting for the next launch before committing to a September start date.

All in all, I'm still very optimistic. I should emphasize that I'm simply a private investor with no claim whatsoever to any expertise regarding this or any other investment I make.

Just closed a nice trading short (while keeping my long G* position) to pick up a little cash from the anticipated pullback after the launch success. djane
