OFF TOPIC -- Pilot stuff

Thank-you for clearing up some of this pilot error mystry. You've explained how this stuff happens in a clear and logical way.

I'm feeling a little foolish right now. I usually question everything put out by the media as either slanted, manipulative, or distorted in an attempt to further circulation, viewership, and hence, revenue. Not that there isn't some truth presented, it's just that it takes quite a bit of sifting to uncover it.

The other guy posted that U.S. pilots require 'some' instrument training too. I shouldn't have believed, or posted, what was published in the paper without making some effort to check the facts.

On the other hand, one cannot continually question everything. The cost of doing this, in time and energy, would be greater than the cost of carrying a headfull of misinformation. I'll endeavour to find a balance somewhere. The beauty of this thread is that people who have far greater first-hand knowledge about a topic are willing to share their thoughts and views with those who haven't the opportunity to become as familiar with the stuff being discussed.

Again, thank-you for your thoughts, PW.

Very interesting post about instrumentation there Jim. Every aircraft should have some reliable way of signaling the pilot as to which way is up, as what could be more important than that in times of bad weather and or confusion?! Safety concerns are still not yet given enough priority in our country I'm afraid... Yogi
