The Aug 9th issue of Forbes has an article under the Technology/digital tools category by Stephen Manes which discusses wireless data. The article reviews a number of digital data services and pricing structures. Qcom is mentioned at the end; a quote from the article. Sorry no link yet.

"And yet another phone based system is about to hit the airwaves: CDMA Digital Data, which should deliver data at about 13 kilobits per second. Airtouch is expected to launch data services over its CDMA network in some markets within the next few weeks. Sprint PCS has committed to full deployment by the end of the year and US WEst and Bell Atlantic will off it too."

Another quote further into the article;

"Things are moving fast. Paul E Jacobs, president of Qualcomm Consumer Products, explains the company's plans for a system known as CDMA 2000 with data rates upwards of 384 kilobits per second and another HDR, which tops out at 2.4 megabits."

Not much news to the knowledgeable on this board but offers a view of what is appearing in the mass distribution magazines.

Anyone know what the HDR represents?

Ron

Leap also had to end an agreement with Qualcomm to use only Qualcomm technology in its new network.
