HC, I'm not so bothered by the AOL issue simply because I view myTalk as a showcase of GMGC's capabilities rather than a successful product by itself.

To my mind the key to success is offering voice interface solutions to the excites/yahoos/hotmails/corporate clients of the world rather than trying to establish a hugely successful myTalk website. As a consumer I'd adopt myTalk more easily if it were there on my regular email package, that way I wouldn't need to change my calendar, address book, and my email address. Take corporate email for example, I can't forward my email to myTalk since this will violate our security norms. I'd love to be able to access my office e-mail via the phone if GMGC could only sell my company on voice enabling our email.

I somehow don't see GMGC creating this hugely successful myTalk franchise based on voice alone, simply because there are tons of other features people look for in their email packages which a lot of companies offer more completely than GMGC. And it would be a waste of resources for GMGC to go out and try to better the others, smarter instead to work with them.

I still think we're going to be pleasantly surprised by signups for excite voicemail, if GMGC offers mytalk features to excite users the signups would probably explode.
