MH,

Absolutely, this comment I do:

Compaq's consumer group has been a leading promoter of Rambus technology, spearheading a quiet initiative that has tried over the past year to rally industry support around a highly integrated PC architecture built atop it.

We haven't heard any discussion of Compaq's use of RDRAM in PCs since the announcement in June of 1998 that they were planning to license RDRAM. Everything since then has focused on Alpha. Now we find out that for this past year they've been trying to rally support for an integrated PC built on top of RDRAM. And that their consumer PC group has been a leading promoter of Rambus!

Doesn't that strike you as a positive thing? To me, that's a biggie!

And one unnamed engineer saying that it's stalled does not exactly wipe out a years worth of working behind the scenes. It sounds as if they've put significant effort into it and, with shipments just about to begin, I'd be very surprised if they cancel everything, Delay, maybe, but not cancel. This is quite good news, IMO.
