Struwwelpeter - a very frightening cautionary tale for kids about the dangers of letting your hair grow too long,sucking your thumb,not finishing your meals,etc. all sorts of terrible consequences (chopping off the thumbs is one) are threatened. scores of german speaking kids are routinely traumatized by this nonsense... but generally speaking i believe the Germans to be more lighthearted than the Austrians, Austria is clearly the heart of morbidity in the German speaking countries. hb
