VARL News - Vari-L Company Announces $2.4 Million in Broadband Orders From Stanford Telecom Subsidiary and Netro

DENVER, July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Vari-L Company, Inc. (Nasdaq: VARL - news), a leading provider of advanced components for the wireless telecommunications industry, today announced it has entered into two separate agreements to deliver components for integration into broadband communications products. Aggregate value of the agreements is set at approximately $2.4 million.

In the larger of the two orders, Netro -- a division of RO Computer Services Pty Limited -- has agreed to purchase high-frequency Voltage Controlled Oscillators (VCOs) in the amount of nearly $1.7 million over the next 24 months. Netro will integrate the patented VCOs into products that offer multipoint, high-speed networking for Internet, voice and frame-relay traffic.

Separately, Stanford Wireless Broadband, Inc. -- a division of Stanford Telecommunications, Inc. -- has agreed to purchase RF Modules in the amount of $750,000 for its new Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS), which gives communications providers a faster, more cost-effective way to deliver Internet access and video and voice services. Vari-L will deliver the RF Modules, which include its own patented components, over the next 12 months. Initial products, geared toward the business market, will later be adapted for subscriber markets.

Dave Sherman, president and CEO of Vari-L, said the agreements underscore the Company's commitment to leveraging its dominant position in traditional wireless infrastructure markets to penetrate rapidly growing segments for broadband applications including the Internet.

''Over the past six months we have experienced a substantial increase in quotation activity involving our high-end broadband products, and that activity is now beginning to translate into revenue opportunities,'' Sherman said. ''We are confident we will capitalize on these emerging opportunities and believe broadband markets will play a major role in Vari-L's long-term growth.''
