Holy smokes. Do you have evidence that the Gilders have a proclivity for, or history of, such activities? Evidence that would lead me to believe that is the way it is?

Enough already. George Gilder has consistently denied the unsubstantiated rumor that he is related to the Richard Gilder of the firm with an interest in NOPT. In NOPT message 218, George explains:

"The Richard Gilder who is a principal in Gilder, Gagnon, and Howe is not related to me in any way. He is a great investor, along with David Howe, who I suspect is responsible for finding this significant optical innovator (NOPT) before I did. Although I may have alerted them to the power of optics in various speeches in the past, I have not visited them for several years now. It's humbling when the students excell the teacher."

In NOPT message 242, in response to the question of whether he is related to that Richard Gilder he again confirmed:

"No, I have a father (killed in WWII), a 15 year old son, a late second cousin, and a great grandfather all named Richard, but none of them are related in any way to Richard Gilder of Gilder Gagnon and Howe, who is a superb investor and is presumably proud to have beat me to the punch in discovering NOPT."

Either provide convincing evidence of this relationship, or stop spreading this type of vicious bile.
