Ms. Lauren Gail Bessette, who was killed in the Kennedy's plane, with her sister and her sister's husband John F Kennedy, Jr, used to work in Morgan Stanley Hong Kong, as a vice president. She had a great circle of friends in HK. She was study in Mandarin Chinese in University of Hong Kong. Her Mandarin was flawless. She mastterminded the successful initial public offering of CHINA EASTERN AIRLINES. I share my sorrow that we lost a good Chinese friend.

Stephen,

Do you have the sense that Bejing's attempt to emphasize Marxist ideology and Atheism is possibly the last gasp of a government on the verge of losing its legitimacy??

It has to be obvious to the Chinese people that such reactionary marxist propaganda is a sign of weakness or fear.

Can China have a reasonably non-violent change of government, avoiding the problems Russia suffered??

Something tells me that things are a bit more on the brink than the West is perceiving, and this Falun Gong crackdown was a major step at retaining what seems to be a far more tenuous grip on power in the country.

Maybe I'm wrong... but when leaderships are in danger of falling out of power, sometimes they undertake VERY risky undertakings in order to distract their people from domestic problems. The Argentinians did it with the Falklands... Might Bejing finally decide to make a try for Taiwan??

Regards,

Ron

That article, to say the least, is very poorly written.

Also wise, I'd say, to recall Stratfor's record for alarmist analysis. I have rarely read a Stratfor report that did not raise the prospect of some dire possibility. Seems to be their primary stock in trade.
