<Sure, just as AMD did, and lost a bunch of secondary accounts in the process.>

Kap, I don't understand what you are trying to hint at here. Do you think Intel's customers will turn to AMD all of a sudden because of this chipset shortage? That seems unlikely given that the K6-2 is already headed into oblivion, the K6-III is virtually non-existent, and the K7 isn't going to ramp up to any meaningful volume until year 2000.

Or maybe those customers will stick to Intel's processors, yet go with third-party chipsets. That's still fine by me; Intel gets higher margins from processors compared to chipsets. And meanwhile, Intel gets to sell everything they make, especially at slightly higher prices.

In other words, what's your point?

kk4u: You don't get it INTC is the best producer out there and they are coming up short not because of poor yields but because of burgeoning demand. So much for all the hand wringing over the death of the PC. What did you think would happen to chip prices when all these guys started to "give away" PC's to fill their bandwidth. I would be a buyer of chips in here. Unfortunately AMD can't produce the little that they promise so I would look at other more generic chip folks- say in the ram area. JFD
