Not from Y2K.
This reflects a lack of knowledge of the development cycles in large companies. First, it doesn't matter what execs announce for the consumption of media. (Most of that is for the purpose of preventing any appearance of not being alert to Y2K. The lawyers are swimming out there.) Those things that need to go in, will.

Second, 4 months window in a few companies is nothing. That would just be the latest "launch chicken". (That is a reference from the days of Apollo when contractors would send reps to sit around a table and the reps would all be hoping someone else would have a delay that was more pressing so that they wouldn't have to say it. Thus a game of "chicken" around the launch.)

Any depression in buying would be strictly based around the budget cycle of the company in question. If they have the budget for that year, they buy.

And since Sterling's stuff is all for long term large project development, well ...
