OT -- The earlier you rise the more you will enjoy being here. Leave for the crater by 4 am and see the dawn -- it is named after the rising sun. It is very cold in the morning and great for hiking -- you loose about three degrees F for every thousand feet you climb(3 x 9 -- 27 degrees). Hiking is fun in the crater -- it is about the size of Manhattan. I prefer my own feet. There are cabins but they must be reserved well in advnace -- usually months. Hana is fun but the road gets crowded. Leave your camera in the car for a minute and somebody will pop the lock and walk off with it (sad but true). I have seen families with young kids where the adults distract you and the kids do the car. I like mama's fish house for lunch. The windsurfing is great -- but stay away from the big swells if you are not used to them -- bone crushers and skull crackers.
