Kap,

<My hope is that AMD will get some of the accounts they lost in Q1 back.>

I was talking about graphics/chipset beneficiaries. Potashner from SIII is on record that his graphics biz is growing right now - the only way this makes sense to me is if that is at the expense of Whitney. I have gone long SIII and am looking at other interesting short-term plays (or for someone to tell me I am mistaken about other Graphics/Chipset players gaining from Whitney problem so that I can take my money and run.)

Getting back to your comment about "hope is that AMD ..." - I am pretty sure AMD will pick some biz from Intel but this early in the quarter I am wondering if Cyrix is picking up business from both AMD and Intel. The mainstays of the so called "free-PC"s from E-machines and Compaq are both from Cyrix. And, all the indications are that they are selling like hotcakes. It is July now, so, the shipments we are seeing are more likely to be from pre-July Cyrix sales. So, that's not necessarily bad for AMD/INTC this Q, but if this extends for a few more weeks then it will be a clear sign that Cyrix is gaining market share this quarter.

If AMD does not cleanup the motherboard mess and ship out a good chunk of K7s quickly, the red ink may be as bad as Q2. This is "show-me" time.

We are in the beginning of yet another interesting quarter.

Chuck
