The information is derived from the following chart after the close of the trading day. I assume all volume under a tick to be 100% in the direction of the tick. I add up the volume under each of the red down ticks and multiply it by two. If that total is lower than the total volume for the day, then the difference is considered net buying.

This chart does not tell who is buying and how the buying is done (whether at the bid or ask). This is the method Jim has been using to determine the weekly count. Hope this helps.
