FWIW, I already have much better luck opening Word documents of various vintages using a recent version of Lotus WordPro than I do using my (somewhat dated) version of Word, so I see no need to send Microsoft any money for an update. Microsoft hasn't bothered keeping things compatible within its own line, but Lotus offers a seamless solution (which is available very cheap). BTW, IBM is packaging the Lotus office suite rather than Microsoft's with some (many?) of its machines, so Microsoft isn't getting THOSE sales.

If Lotus can do it, I suspect Star Division can, too.

The monopoly may crumble of its own weight just about the time the DOJ wins its case.

JMHO.
