By approving the transfer, the Board of Supervisors has voted for the timely deployment of broadband Internet services in San Francisco. Excite@Home applauds this decision and pledges to work hard to provide San Francisco residents the best available broadband choices at the lowest possible prices. The city also passed a non-binding resolution calling for "non-discriminatory access" to broadband services and content and requiring the city to monitor the broadband marketplace. Having studied the matter extensively, the Federal Communications Commission and staff of the City of Los Angeles have concluded that non-intervention by local governments in the nascent broadband market is in the best interests of both consumers and the industry.
