Hitachi Data Systems Adds JNI to Its SAN Alliances Team; JNI to Provide Interconnectivity Tools for Hitachi Data Systems' Open SAN Solutions in Sun Environments
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 27, 1999--Hitachi Data Systems today announced that JNI(TM) (Jaycor Networks Inc.) is the newest member of its Storage Area Network (SAN) alliances team.
Under the alliance agreement, Hitachi Data Systems will provide JNI's host bus adapters as part of its open Freedom SAN(TM) solutions for Sun Microsystems(R) environments. JNI is the fourth company to join the Hitachi Data Systems' SAN alliances team.
Through alliance partnerships, Hitachi Data Systems provides a single source for open and tightly integrated SAN solutions. Freedom SAN solutions are based on Freedom Data Networks(TM) (FDN), a flexible structure for implementing SANs and other data-centric network solutions that allow customers to access and control their data without being tied to proprietary technology that limits their business options. Hitachi Data Systems announced its Freedom SAN solution on 26 April, 1999. Ancor, Emulex, and Gadzoox are other members of Hitachi Data Systems' SAN alliances team.
"Hitachi Data Systems welcomes JNI to the SAN alliances team, which will help us deliver true openness and interoperability in Sun environments," said James Harris, Hitachi Data Systems' group vice president, global marketing and alliances. "JNI's host bus adapter, a key piece of enabling technology for our Freedom SAN solution, will allow us to provide customers with highly reliable and fast connections to storage devices. Thanks to all of our alliance partnerships, we continue to deliver on our vision of access to any information, from any computer, anywhere, anytime."
Hitachi Data Systems and its alliance partners provide three key SAN components: storage systems; interconnect devices, such as hubs and switches; and host bus adapters. JNI's and Emulex' host bus adapters provide high-speed fibre connectivity for Sun- and Windows NT(R)-based servers, respectively. Gadzoox' managed hubs connect Fibre Channel-Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) servers and storage, offering a lower-cost network solution. Ancor's high-performance fabric switches provide multiple, non-blocking, communication paths among servers, storage devices, and multiple switches for large SAN fabric configurations.
In addition, Hitachi Data Systems offers end-to-end SAN solutions that include an extensive set of technical services to assist clients in planning, implementing, and managing SAN-based environments to optimize the control of data across the enterprise.
"The agreement between JNI and Hitachi Data Systems brings together two companies that are committed to reliability, robustness, and excellence in customer service," said Tracy Crowe, director of Marketing at JNI. "The selection of JNI's FibreStar(TM) Fibre Channel adapters for Hitachi Data Systems' industry-leading SAN solutions will be a great benefit for customers."
